South Africa V Australia 3rd Test

Day 1


As Australia had already won the series but defiantly and South Africa would want to win to save some pride and if South Africa win this match then these two teams would both have 3 win against each other in the summer.

Ricky Pointing won the toss and chose to bat first again.This time Kallis was the captain of the South Africa and Price was back in the side and another new batsmen from Durban Imran Khan was given chance to play for his country and another change of M Morkal was replaced by his brother A Morkal.Australia started well with their opening batsmen getting good start.They stand the opening stand of 58 till Hughes got LBW at the bowling of Harris.Rickey Pointing got out without scoring but they lost only two wickets in the first session.2nd session was totally dominated by as they lost 3 wickets in it.Simon Katich got out just before tea scoring 55.After the tea in the very first over Australia lost Haiden and soon after they got all out with the score of 209.Steyn took 4 wickets , Ntini took 2 ,A Morkal 1 and Harris took 3.

South Africa started with their two new openers Prince and Imran Khan and dint lost any wicket in their 14 overs and made 57.

Day 2

Starting day 2 South Africa were confident that they would have a good lead against the Australians and then put pressure on them in the 2nd inning.Starting the day South Africa lost their first wicket as Imran Khan was caught and bowled of Siddle and it was only wicket to fall in the first session for the South African and then they lost their 2nd wicket in the 2nd session as Amla was caught by Haddin on the bowling of Johnson.Amla made 44 and 2nd wicket partnership was of 97.Prince brought up his hundred in the 2nd session and South Africa also lost only 1 wicket in the 2nd session.And in the third session again same story continued , South Africa only lost the wicket of Prince in the third session after he scored 150.Kallis completed his hundred just before the end of the day.So Australia just took three wickets in the day and South Africa know 195 runs ahead at the end of day 2.

Day 3

Starting the day 3 Kallis got out in the morning without adding any run to his over night score of 102.But AB De Villiars took the things in hand and played a great innings.He scored hundred and gave Australians no chance to have an momentum on the game.Although South Africa took 3 wickets in the first session but the scoring rate was kept up by De Villiars so South Africa was feeling no pressure.A Morkal scored 50 in his 1st test inning and scored it in a quick rate.McGain had the worst figures in the Australian team giving away 149 in his 18 overs.For Australia Mitchell Johnson took 4 wickets.AB De Villiars made 163 with 12 fours and 7 big sixes.South Africa were bowled out at tea and managed to make a huge total of 651 and were 442 run ahead.Australia batted in the last session and lost their 2 wickets and had made 102 runs with Simon Katich and Hussey batting.

Day 4

South Africa were entering the 4th day hoping that they would win the match by an inning and Australians were in fear of having their worst defeat of the decade.Australia started the day too slow and they scored only 42 on their 1st session and losing 1 wicket of Simon Katich but still South Africa was in commanding position and in the second session they took three wickets and all the key batsmen of the Australian team were back in the dressing room.But the partnership of McDonald and Mitchell Johnson made the third session interesting and it was looking that South African might have to come again on day 5 to bowl out the Australians but Paul Harris broke the partnership by dismissing McDonald and on the very next delivery he got out Siddle.Johnson scored his 1st international hundred but the lead was too much he could not save his team from innings defeat.South Africa won the match by inning but they lost the series 2-1.Johnson also got the man of the series.
